A selection of straight-axis lubricating gears

Here you will find a selection of lubricating gears with the most common dimensions. In addition to the module (the gear size), we manufacture lubricating gears in all possible widths, with a wide variety of tooth counts or helix angles. Of course, this is necessary in order to be able to lubricate the various gearings found in mechanical engineering with lubricating gears, but it would be impossible to present this wide range of variants in our “store”.

So if you cannot find the lubrication solution for your specific gearing here, please do not hesitate to send us an inquiry.

Select the right lubricating gear

The module:

the module is the gear size… Only gears of the same module fit together, so you should know the module of the gearing you want to lubricate… You can find this information in the technical documentation for your machine or you can simply measure it and then calculate it…

The toothing direction:

Gears are available with straight, helical left-hand and helical right-hand teeth. Straight-toothed is the simplest form of toothing… namely simply straight, i.e. parallel to the axis of the gearwheel.

Helical gears are available in right or left-hand helical versions… It is important to note that a combination of left- and right-hand helical gears always fits together… For example, if you have a gear rack or a gearwheel that is “left-hand helical”, you need a “right-hand helical” lubricating gearwheel to be able to lubricate it.

In order to recognize which gear direction is present, it can be helpful, for example, to imagine the gear lying horizontally, i.e. with a vertical axis… If you now follow the toothing from bottom to top, you can see whether it is “rising to the left”, i.e. rising to the left, or to the right… It doesn’t matter whether the axis points upwards or downwards… It only has to be vertical, as shown below…

How are the STW lubricating gears constructed and how do they work?

STW lubricating gears are designed for the even and continuous lubrication of open gears. These can be classic gear drives or gearboxes, gear rims or toothed linear drives with racks.

Grease is preferably used as a lubricant, usually in fairly low viscosity classes, as this adheres to the surfaces to be lubricated for a long time, even with often small relative movements between the tooth flanks, and ensures low-friction operation. Ideally, the lubricating gear should therefore be combined with an automatic lubrication system, which ensures a continuous supply of grease during the operating time of the gear drive. The lubrication gear is connected to the lubrication device (often a central lubrication system) via simple HP hoses, which can be used over a distance of up to approx. 10 m and are simply plugged into the HP push-in fittings of the lubrication pinion set.

Structure of lubricating gears

The grease thus passes through the hollow shaft of the lubricating gear (01) into the central bearing bush (04) and from there via grease channels to the surface of the foam applicators (05). Due to their open pore structure, these have the ability to absorb a great deal of grease and thus ensure even distribution and buffering of the fresh grease.

In principle, this type of tooth flank lubrication is completely identical to felt lubrication gears, which have been in use for around 100 years.

However, the design of these modern lubricating gears made of the special material STW GF 71/05.133 with plain bearings (02) and bearing sleeve (04) inside the foam applicators ensures maximum smooth running. These lubricating gears rotate with virtually no resistance worth mentioning, which increases their service life many times over compared to felt gears.
